Mirrored Bazaar

Mirrored Bazaar – Çanakkale Aynalı Çarşı is one of the places that people who come to Çanakkale want to visit because of the famous folk song of Çanakkale. This bazaar, which draws attention with its original gate and inscription that has survived to the present day, is thought to be the Mirrored Bazaar mentioned in the folk song. However, the name Aynalı Çarşı is not mentioned in the inscription. The gate of the bazaar made of red stone is arched.

The keystone of the arch is decorated with relief floral patterns. The inscription on the arch is the most important document that gives information about the bazaar. He is trilingual: Ottoman, Hebrew and French. The Ottoman inscription reads as follows in modern Turkish: “It is a dear bazaar, built with the efforts of the servants of Ilyo Halyo, a Jewish national loyal to him, with the blessing and support of Sultan Gazi, Abdulhamid II, who is known for his justice. The year is Hijri Muharram 1307 (November-December 1889).” The bazaar, which was restored by Çanakkale Municipality in 2007 and contains shops selling souvenirs specific to Çanakkale, is an important shopping center that attracts the attention of tourists.
